Johnny Moran is beginning his fifth season on the UNI men’s basketball staff. He will serve as the video coordinator for the 2016-17 season.
Moran joined the staff in 2012-13 as a graduate manager after a stellar four-year career that saw him become a 1,000-point scorer and lead the Panthers to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths.
A native of Algonquin, Ill., Moran tallied 1,048 points in his UNI Panther career from 2008-12. Moran holds the UNI record for most games played (135) and is tied with two others (Marc Sonnen and Kwadzo Ahelegbe) for the most games won as a Panther at 91. He ranks No. 2 at UNI in career 3-point field goals made (201), trailing only Ben Jacobson’s total of 203 from 2002-2006.
He was named to the Missouri Valley Conference’s All-Freshmen team in the 2008-09 season.
Moran was inducted into the Jacobs High School Hall of Fame on Sept. 19, 2014. Moran holds the Jacobs HS records for most points scored (1,918), assists (443) and steals (344).
Moran earned his bachelor’s degree at UNI in movement and exercise science in 2012.

SOPHOMORE (2009-10): Led the team in steals (35) ... knocked down a key 3-pointer with 4:09 left to give UNI a 59-53 lead over No. 1-ranked Kansas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament ... poured in a season-high 17 pts in a 70-52 win over Creighton (2/16) ... missed the first game of his career after 52 straight starts with an injured foot at Indiana State (1/24) ... his 7-0 mini-run turned a one-point deficit into a 69-63 lead vs. Missouri State (1/3) ... posted 15 points in a 65-46 win over Evansville (1/1) ... grabbed a season-high 8 rebounds in a 60-52 road win vs. Creighton (12/29) ... scored 12 points in UNI's 82-65 win over Siena (12/12) ... sank two 3-pointers in a 67-50 win over Iowa (12/8) ... knocked down 4-of-10 from the field in scoring nine points in a 74-68 win over East Carolina (11/21) ... dished out a season-high four assists in the win over the Pirates (11/21) ... drilled a 3-pointer with 3:14 left to give UNI a 61-56 lead at Denver (11/13).
FRESHMAN (2008-09): Named to the MVC All-Freshman Team ... ranked second on the team by draining 50 three-pointers ... averaged 8.4 points per game while playing in 29.7 minutes per game ... started all 34 games as a true freshman ... ranked fourth on the team with 133 rebounds ... scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his collegiate debut against Denver (11/15) ... became the first Panther since Brad Hill (11/27/89 vs. Missouri Western) to earn a double-double in his debut ... poured in 21 points, including six three-pointers in leading UNI to a 74-67 victory over Texas Southern (11/23) ... tallied 13 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line as UNI scored a 67-61 victory over Auburn (11/29) ... knocked down a career-high 22 points, which included a season-high tying six three-pointers and grabbed eight rebounds, in a 69-66 win at Creighton (1/6) ... posted his third 20-plus scoring effort of the season with 20 points in an 81-59 win at Drake (1/17) ... dished out a season-high six assists and hit the game-winning three-pointer with five seconds left in UNI's 61-58 win at Bradley (2/3) ... scored eight points and hit a pair of three-pointers against Purdue (3/19) in the NCAA Tournament.
